I am pleased to report that the 2016-17 school year has started on a positive note. This year’s theme is “All Aboard the ACS Express to Success”, where each month, a new theme car will be added to our train. Teamwork, Good Habits, and Community are just some of the themes we look forward to exploring. On Friday, September 9th, the whole school took a ride on the Delaware and Ulster Railroad in Arkville and worked on bonding our teams. Each teacher has a team consisting of elementary, middle school and high school students that will grow together as a team throughout the year.
On October 6th we hosted our 8th annual “Evening of Excellence” to honor 19 students in grades 7-12 who maintained a GPA of 90% or higher during the 2015-16 school year.
In addition, we are passionate about the Arts and continue to afford our youngsters those opportunities to participate and be exposed to the Arts. With the efforts of Mrs. Sharon Tucker, we were able to take a school-wide trip to NYC for over 100 children and chaperones to view “The Lion King” on December 21st. In addition, our Drama Club, led by advisor, Mrs. Elaine Peck, and Mr. John Bernhardt, is working diligently on their upcoming performance of “Into The Woods”, which will take place on Friday, March 31st, Saturday, April 1st, and Sunday, April 2nd.
Working with children and educating our young people is sometimes a challenging task, but one with many rewards. As in the past, this year our focus continues to be on improving student achievement as well as ensure that all our seniors graduate in June 2017. Our overall aim is still the same; to provide the very best educational experience for all our students and to assist each student in preparing for their future.
Lastly, I hope that every child comes to school each day prepared to learn and eager to participate in the exciting opportunities offered here at Andes.
